Content management
The Content management menu gives you a way to manage content in various ways from a single form. Select Navigation | Administer | Content management | Content.
Everything you can do in this window can also be done by directly editing the content node itself. Use whichever you find easiest. However, this window has advantages in certain circumstances:
- You can easily locate nodes which are not published. It can be difficult to navigate to those nodes using normal methods.
- You can perform bulk operations, eg deleting a whole group of nodes, in one operation.
Content listing
The managment window has three sections. The last section is the most important, it consists of a table listing all of the content nodes on your website. Using this table you can go to any page (by clicking on its name in the Title column) or edit any page (by clicking its edit entry in the Operations column).
Filtering
Going back to the top of the page, the first section (Show only items where) is a simple filter. You can choose to filter:
- By status. You can show only pages which are published, not published, promoted (to the font page), not promoted, sticky or not sticky.
- By type. You can show only Stories, Pages or any other node types you have defined (for example, Recipes).
For example, click Page in the type list. Hit the Filter button, and you will see only your pages, without the stories or recipes.
You will now see a new set of filter options. Select not published in the status list and push the Refine button. You will now see a list of all your unpublished pages (filters combine using AND logic, you will see all nodes where the type is page AND the status is not published). This particular combination is good for checking that you don't have any outstanding, unpublished pages (ie pages that are work in progress and, heaven forbid, you forgot to finish them).
You will see there is also an Undo button, which undoes the most recent filter stage, and a Reset button, which removes all the filters, displaying the whole list of content.
Update options
The Update options area, the second section of the page, allows you to perform operations on selected content. You can select content is several ways:
- Click one or more of the check boxes in the content list. This allows you to select any combination of nodes you wish.
- Click the check box at the top of the content list to select all content.
- Use the filter to display a subset of the content, then select all. Only the visible items will be selected. For example if you filter Pages only, then select all, you will select all pages but not stories.
After making your selection, choose an option. You can set or reset the published, promoted (to front page)ans sticky attributes. You can also delete nodes. Select the option then press the Update button.
